What is Marriage? Marriage is when people are being united together as husband and wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by the law. Marriage hasn’t always been how it is now, where women have a say in family problems, and where woman have the right to choose whom they want to marry. Before during the ancient times, women had to marry those in their families, and could not marry those that were Marriage use to be all about doing what you needed to support your family, which meant you married someone who was able to give you what you needed. Marriage wasn’t because you loved someone, but it was always because people wanted to preserve power. Now in the marriage, people marry, because they love each other, and because†¦show more content†¦In Roman Egypt, many men married there full sister and eventually raised a family with them. 20% of all families in Roman Egypt were married to either there sister, or other parts of their families, such a s a close relative like their cousins, or aunts. 40% of all families had children in a simultaneous marriageable age. Women in Ancient Mesopotamia were usually daughters to their fathers, or wives to their husbands. During this time period, most women had no rights and never acted as individuals, unless their husbands were of loyalty, or they were loyalty. After girls hit their puberty stage, they were eligible to marry a male. There was a steps to ways people could expand their family which was to marry, divorce, adoption, and then to remarry. Fertile wives were divorce sometimes while pregnant; this helped to form alliances while wives were remarried. Roman needed large families, in order to support their political desires. During the China period, many people believed marriage was not a success unless they had an imperial examination, marriage, and gave birth to a son. During this period, marriage was far more important, than the man finding his other half. For the women’ s side, it meant that the parents would lose the chances of seeing their daughter for a long time, while for the males’ side it determined the future fame of their family, and state of prosperity.
